JULY 19, 2022

In this edition of the CCDP newsletter...

  •  Chairman Eric Schlenkermann, in A Message from the Chairman, notes the vital role of precinct delegates, underscoring how very important it is for voters to be actively involved in helping assure Democrats (and democracy!) win in November. It could be something as simple as contacting your precinct delegate and offering to help!
  • In How to fix the United States Supreme Court, Tina Andrews decries the current ultra-conservative Supreme Court and describes some bills that have been introduced to try to bring balance back to that institution.
  • Don't Drink the Water by Ellen Link questions why it is that corporations are continually allowed to endanger our environment and our lives. She uses the recent oil spill in the St. Mary's River as an example of the threats posed by Line 5 which runs under the straits of Mackinac.
  • Tim Hughes, in his Under the Dome column, discusses the Reproductive Freedom and Voters Rights Proposals that will likely be on the ballot in November. He also presents brief highlights of the recently passed FY2023 budget for Michigan.
  • In a A Path Forward for Democrats youth columnist Ethan Reader explores the importance of turning out Democratic voters to take control in more states, given the recent Supreme Court decisions which emphasize "states rights."
  • Citizens' Corner provides a link to helpful voting information, along with a recent cartoon by CCDP's talented Fred Clark
  • See who is running in which races in Getting to Know Our Candidates; you'll also find links to candidates' websites and Facebook pages.

In this edition of the CCDP newsletter.....

  • Under the Dome by Tim Hughes focuses on Hero Pay for essential workers. In the era of Covid-19, it is appropriate that a proposal to honor essential workers be put before the Legislature. Tim also discusses the Republican petition drive to make it harder to vote.  Governor Whitmer vetoed the package of voter suppression bills that passed along party lines in the State legislature.  Republicans are now funding a petition drive to circumvent the will of the people of Michigan.  Find out what you can do to stop this voter suppression.
  • In the Citizen's Corner by Theresa Kidd you can find out how to take action about two topics; the October 2, 2021 MI Body MI Choice rally at the Capitol, and mining bills that are working their way through the house and senate.
  • Catch up on the latest happenings with the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission written by Tina Andrews.
  • Logan Byrne writes about how organized labor and civil rights are not mutually exclusive.
  • Melany Mack covers two different topics in this edition of the newsletter. "What's fair about this?", discusses the Republican led Secure MI Vote petition drive to make voting more difficult in our state.
